About SadaPay

SadaPay is transforming financial services in Pakistan with a digital-first experience that makes managing money simple, transparent, and hassle-free. With over three-quarters of the population still unbanked, we believe financial services need a radical shift. With SadaPay, all you need is a CNIC, a phone number, and a smartphone to get started; no paperwork, no long waits. Our 2 million users have left behind their worst banking frustrations, no hidden fees, free local transfers, and a payment experience that’s actually enjoyable. Pair that with friendly customer service and a vibrant debit card, and suddenly, finance doesn’t just work, it feels fun! 🚀

Why is this role important?

Millions of people bank with us, and for many of them this is the first account they have ever had. Keeping that experience dependable means understanding precisely why something behaved the way it did for a customer, getting it to the right team quickly, and taking the manual effort out of the work around it. The role does two things. You diagnose production issues and escalate them to the owning engineering team with a clear, evidence-backed picture of what happened. And you take the operational workflows that are run by hand today and turn them into tooling and automation. AI coding agents are a core part of how we engineer. Tooling that would once have been a long project is now something a single engineer can design, build, and ship quickly, and youʼll use that leverage every day. For an engineer early in their career, this is one of the fastest ways to learn a production payments stack end to end.

As a Sadanaut you will:

Diagnose and escalate production issues

  • Investigate issues reported across our services, payments, transfers, cards, onboarding, accounts and establish what actually happened.
  • Work fluently in logs and product analytics, and read into the Kotlin/Spring code in our
  • monorepo when you need to go deeper.
  • Escalate to the engineering team that owns the fix, with a clear diagnosis, the supporting evidence, and reproduction steps.
  • Track recurring patterns and raise them early so the underlying cause gets addressed.

Automate the manual workflows

  • Take the operational workflows that are run by hand today and turn them into internal tools, scheduled jobs, and automated processes.
  • Build self-serve tooling so our support teams can resolve routine requests without escalating.
  • Extend the internal AI copilots we use for triage, so an investigation begins from a generated timeline rather than a blank search bar.
  • Use AI coding agents as a primary build tool, and keep raising the ceiling on whatʼs worth automating as those tools improve.

Document and operate safely

  • Write runbooks and internal documentation that someone else can follow.
  • Carry out operational actions on production data carefully, and within our regulatory and data-handling requirements.

What it takes to become a Sadanaut:

The Foundation Weʼre Looking For

  • A computer science degree, or an equivalent CS foundation you can demonstrate: data structures, databases, networking, and how an HTTP request actually travels through a distributed system.
  • Solid programming ability in at least one language, and the confidence to open an unfamiliar codebase and work out what it does.
  • Comfort with SQL and querying logs or event data to answer a question, rather than waiting for a dashboard to exist.
  • Real daily use of AI coding agents. Tools like Claude Code or Cursor are how we build here, and you should be able to walk us through a genuine workflow you use rather than a demo you tried once.
  • Genuine curiosity about why something broke, and the persistence to keep going past the first plausible explanation.
  • Clear written communication. Much of this job is explaining a technical cause precisely, often to someone non-technical.

Stronger Candidates Will Also Have

  • Internships, side projects, or open-source work where you shipped something that ran and had users.
  • Exposure to Kotlin, Java, or another typed backend language, and to Spring or a similar framework.
  • Experience with log search and observability tooling, or with writing scripts that automate a manual process end to end.
  • Some understanding of how payments, banking, or any transactional system works, including what makes correctness non-negotiable.

Good to Have

  • Basic familiarity with containers, Kubernetes, or AWS.
  • Experience building small internal tools, bots, or dashboards for a non-technical team.
  • Prior work in a regulated or high-trust domain

The Mindset Weʼre Looking For

  • You're a builder, not a job-seeker. You dislike doing the same thing twice and you do something about it,  youʼd rather spend a day writing the script than a month running the process.
  • You care about the customer on the other end, you donʼt wait to be handed the next task, and when you donʼt know something you go and find out. You're early in your career and you hold a high bar for your own work.

Perks of being at SadaPay:

  • USD-Denominated Salary: At SadaPay, all salaries are pegged to USD to help protect team members from inflation. If the dollar depreciates against the PKR, you'll always receive a minimum payment equal to your PKR salary.
  • Hybrid Work Culture: In locations where we have an office (Karachi and Islamabad), our teams follow a hybrid work model with 2 days in the office and 3 days remote each week, balancing collaboration, flexibility, and focused work.
  • Flexible Leave Policy: We offer a flexible leave policy to support a sustainable work-life balance. We trust our colleagues to manage their work and leave responsibly.
  • Comprehensive Insurance Coverage: Every Sadanaut, regardless of grade, receives Medical Insurance (covering both outpatient and inpatient care), including immediate family and parents.
  • Provident Fund Contributions: Provident fund contributions are provided to all team members to support their financial growth.
  • Technology and Resources: Each colleague receives a laptop and additional resources (relevant to their role) to ensure they can work efficiently and comfortably.

Equal Opportunity Provider:

At SadaPay, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. We strive to make every Sadanaut feel comfortable and respected in the workplace. Discrimination of any kind has no place here; instead, we promote a culture of respect and mutual support among colleagues. Our recruitment process is built on fairness and equality for all, irrespective of race, age, gender, color, religion, social status, disability, or ethnicity.
